Thanks to a late invitation from the good people at PBS Engage, I am now set to head up to Washington D.C. for the first PublicMedia Camp event this weekend.

PublicMedia Camp is the brainchild of NPR and PBS, and is designed as "an initiative to strengthen the relationship that public broadcasters have with their communities through the creation of collaborative projects." This mission is an extension of the work I have been doing with PBS Engage, which is an ongoing project to change how PBS and its member stations interact with their audiences.

The camp is in traditional Foor/Bar Camp style, and kicks off at American University on Saturday, October 17th. Attendance is full, and the attendee list should raw from a wide range of backgrounds. The camp is hoping to attract and, more importantly, engage and retain, a core group of local people interested in the future of public media in the United States.

There should be a fair number of Drupal people on hand, and I will certainly be there in that capacity. But I am more interested to hear the challenges and opportunities facing local public media. You can already see a session schedule begin to take shape, and there are some active development projects that we may dive into as well.

I just submitted a session idea for "Drupal as a Community Platform", which is designed as a question and answer session that will discuess Drupal's mission, goals and community within the context of public media broadcasting.

I am very excited to be going. It will be a busy two days, but if you're in DC, come and introduce yourself.
