Drupal 6 was released early in 2008. Close on the heels of this release came a wave of Drupal books, a wave that continues unabated. Packt Publishing led the way. Their firm commitment to Drupal can be seen in their publishing record: six Drupal books in 2008 and over a dozen Drupal books to date.

When Packt announced their "Author of the Year Awards" for 2008, they opened voting to the reading community at large and Drupal users made their voices heard. Of the six finalists, two of the selected authors wrote books on Drupal: Aaron Winborn ("Drupal Multimedia") and me, Matt Butcher ("Learning Drupal 6 Module Development"). It is a tremendous honor to make it this far - especially given the high quality of the other works (most of which I have read). And aside from being a personal honor, we view it as a testament to the community. Packt has invested in Drupal, and the Drupal community has made it clear that we appreciate the investment.

From this point, the winner will be selected by a panel of industry experts. But the real achievement has been made already: Drupal has shown itself to be a strong and growing community that welcomes the efforts of authors and publishers. Here's to many more years of high-quality Drupal books.
