At Palantir, the values of interconnectedness, freedom, and openness shape and inform the projects that we work on. When we have the opportunity to collaborate with clients who share those values, the results can be pretty outstanding.
That’s why we were happy to have the opportunity to work with Acquia and Red Hat to build opensource.com, a new Drupal-based community Web site that aims to spread the word about how the open source way can bring people together to solve problems that impact the world around us.
As Drupal project lead and Acquia co-founder Dries Buytaert mentioned in his blog post earlier this week, the site is centered around discussions on how open source is having an impact in business, education, government, law, and life. While many people know open source as a software development method, the goal of the site is to take the dialogue far beyond just technology.
You can learn more about how opensource.com was built in our case study, and we hope that you’ll consider checking out the site and joining the conversation today!
Last week, several hundred people joined a few of us at Palantir for Playing Nicely With Others: Integrating Drupal with Third-Party Data, a webinar hosted by our friends and partners at Acquia. This hour-long presentation focused on different approaches and strategies for migrating and integrating data from third-party systems into Drupal, along with a few examples from some projects that we’ve worked on.
Many of our clients, such as colleges and universities, publications, and museums and cultural institutions, need their Web sites to work seamlessly with information from other systems, such as course listings, subscribers, and collections. We’re also often asked to migrate large amounts of content from legacy content management platforms or static HTML. One of the reasons we like working with Drupal is that its flexibility makes these kinds of migrations and integrations easy to accomplish.
You can view the full webinar at Acquia’s Web site, and copies of our slides from the presentation are posted in PDF format here.

Springtime is conference season, and this year has been a pretty busy one for us at Palantir. We just got back from Museums and the Web in Indianapolis last week, and it’s already time to start getting ready for next week’s CMS Expo. Fortunately, we don’t have to travel too far this time – it’s being held in Evanston, IL, which is only a few miles from our north Chicago office and also happens to be where a few of us live. CMS Expo is a training and business conference focusing on Drupal, Joomla!, Alfresco and other open source content management products. Along with our friends at Acquia, Palantir will be one of the conference’s sponsors, and a number of us will be presenting sessions as well:
The last few weeks have been pretty busy ones here at Palantir, but I wanted to take a few minutes and let folks know what we’ve been up to lately:

First off, we’re very pleased to announce that we’ve teamed up with Acquia as a Platinum Partner to offer customized software solutions based on Acquia’s commercially-supported Drupal distribution. We’re looking forward to working with Acquia to continue to improve Drupal and enhance the strength of its supporting community.
Drupal Camp Chicago got underway earlier today, and a few of us will be presenting sessions there tomorrow afternoon. Matt Butcher will be talking about “JavaScript, jQuery, Drupal: Oh, my!”, Larry Garfield will get everyone up-to-speed on “Drupal 7 to Date”, and I will be giving a variation of my Drupalcon Szeged talk titled, “Yes We Can: Building Beautiful and Sustainable Sites in Drupal”. As a strong supporter of the local Chicago Drupal community, Palantir is one of the professional sponsors of Drupal Camp Chicago.

Palantir is also one of the sponsors of Do It With Drupal, a three-day learning seminar in New Orleans this December 10-12. Speakers will include some of the biggest and brightest names in the community, including our own John Wilkins, who will be talking about “Designing for Drupal”. This is a great opportunity for folks who want to learn more about Drupal, and there are still spots open if you register today!

We’re happy to announce that the Indianapolis Museum of Art Web site, which Palantir built last year, was selected as a Silver Winner by the International Academy of Visual Arts in the 2008 W³ Awards competition. The W³ Awards honor creative excellence on the Web, and recognize the creative and marketing professionals behind award-winning sites and marketing programs.
And last, but certainly not least, we want to wish a warm welcome to the newest member of the Palantir team, Nate Striedinger. In addition to his extensive XHTML and CSS development experience, Nate has worked with a number of free and open source content management platforms as well as Linux system administration. He’s also an accomplished drummer who can sometimes be found performing with a number of Chicago-area bands. Nate is already hard at work with the other members of our front-end development team on projects that will be launching by the end of the year.
