Sustainability has always been one of Palantir’s key values. It informs everything from the way that we build Web sites, to our employment practices, to the impact we have on the global environment.
Not only is today Earth Day, but this week also marks the one-year anniversary of Palantir’s move into our Elston Avenue office space. I thought it would be appropriate to mark the occasion by sharing some of the ways that we’ve tried to act in an environmentally sustainable way over the past year.

Following up on this post from a few weeks back, I'm happy to report that Palantir has now balanced its carbon emissions for all of 2007 and the first quarter of 2008 by purchasing 95 metric tons worth of CO2 offsets from TerraPass, a leading consumer retailer and marketer of greenhouse gas reduction offsets and consumer energy efficiency products.
Environmental issues have long been important to us at Palantir, even before the "green movement" of the last couple years. My very first job growing up was working at a recycling center owned by my parents, and ever since, I've been pretty insufferable about making everyone around me use recycled and environmentally-friendly products.
