Thinking Ahead: Palantir’s Dedication to a Sustainable Future
Reducing our carbon footprint while supporting sustainable global development
One of our core values at Palantir is that we think ahead. This means that we consider the big picture, take the long view, and adapt as necessary to meet changing needs. It's one of the reasons we believe it's important for us to acknowledge and take responsibility for reducing the impact that our operations have on the planet.
Over the last few years, we've made a deliberate and concerted effort to calculate and offset our carbon footprint. Since 2020, we’ve offset nearly 800 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions—the equivalent of 2 million miles driven by an average gasoline-powered passenger vehicle.
While offsetting is at best a short-term strategy to address climate change, it does help make companies and organizations more aware of the full lifecycle costs of their activities. We believe that it's less expensive to take responsibility for those costs upfront than it is to defer them to a future date.
Since 2023, we’ve partnered with Offset Alliance, a Certified B Corp and SBA-Certified Woman Owned Small Business to measure and offset our emissions. They work with companies like ours to benchmark relevant greenhouse gas emissions using global carbon accounting standards, such as the GHG Protocol.
For 2024, we offset 156 metric tons of emissions to achieve 100% carbon neutrality for our operations. As a fully remote company, our emissions come entirely from indirect activities such as employee home energy use (29.83 metric tons), business travel (30.90 metric tons), and purchased goods and services (95.09 metric tons).
Credits were purchased from three carbon offsetting projects:
- Escuela de Minas (Colombia): 146 metric tons. A run-of-river hydroelectric plant that lowers the carbon intensity of electricity production in Marinilla, Colombia, reducing more than 83,000 metric tonnes of CO2 per year while creating local jobs
- Ascend Performance N2O Destruction (Florida, USA): 5 metric tons. Uses proprietary technology to destroy nitrous oxide emissions, an industrial super pollutant with a global warming potential 265 times higher than CO2
- Southern Plains Land Trust (Colorado, USA): 5 metric tons. Preserves shortgrass prairie ecosystems of the southern Great Plains, protecting 25,000 acres and providing refuge for native wildlife
You can view more information about these projects on the Offset Alliance website.
Supporting the UN Sustainable Development Goals
When selecting projects to support, we prioritized ones that supported the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are a collection of 17 global goals designed to address challenges like poverty, inequality, climate change, peace, and justice. The offsets we purchased for 2024 supported the following SDGs:
![]() | Goal 4: Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.
|
![]() | Goal 7: Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all. |
![]() | Goal 8: Promote sustained, inclusive and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment and decent work for all. |
![]() | Goal 9: Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation |
![]() | Goal 12: Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns. |
![]() | Goal 13: Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts. |
![]() | Goal 15: Protect, restore and promote sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, sustainably manage forests, combat desertification, and halt and reverse land degradation and halt biodiversity loss. |
As a company that believes in thinking ahead, our commitment to environmental responsibility is more than just a short-term initiative—it's a core part of taking the long view and building a sustainable future, not just for our company, but for the global community.
